Piloting a submarine

Designed to introduce the general public to the challenges of piloting a submarine, the setup features a physical control interface replicating the necessary navigation controls, complemented by two screens—one for the pilot and another for the audience standing behind. The application offers two navigation modes, corresponding to two levels of proficiency. The introductory mode includes five exercises covering all maneuvers: diving, surfacing, trimming, adjusting pitch, and steering. The expert mode allows users to carry out a full mission under realistic conditions, navigating “blind” using only instrument readings. The mission involves navigating the Weddell Sea in Antarctica in search of a gap in the ice where the submarine can surface.
